ABOUT ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE

Ornamental horticulture plays a vital cultural, aesthetic, economic, and environmental role globally, generating billions in revenue. This thriving sector includes floriculture and landscape horticulture, covering cut flowers, potted plants, bedding plants, foliage, quality seeds, planting materials, and dry flowers. It also encompasses landscaping, post-harvest management, and value-added products, with sustainability and technological advancements driving its continued growth. India, benefiting from diverse agro-climatic conditions, supports year-round production of ornamental crops. In 2023, the Indian floriculture market reached USD 3 billion and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%, reaching approximately USD 8.18 billion by 2032. Flowers are culturally significant in India, used for aesthetic, social, and religious purposes. The global demand for cut and loose flowers has elevated floriculture as a key commercial trade in Indian horticulture. Beyond ornamental use, flowers are a source of raw material for the extraction of flavours and fragrances, natural colours, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceutical compounds.
